Built by Platinum Yachts and completed in 2006, a large part of her hull and superstructure was completed in Germany at Blohm + Voss in co-operation with Lürssen. After the unfinished yacht was sold to the ruler of Dubai - who is still her current owner - she was transported from Germany to the Platinum Yachts’ facilities in Dubai for completion. She was designed by Andrew Winch Designs, with Nakheel Interiors collaborating on her interior.

Dubai is the third largest yacht in the world after the 162.50 metre Eclipse built by Blohm + Voss in 2010, as well as the 180 metre Azzam launched in 2013 by Lürssen Yachts. She was originally commissioned by a Prince from Brunei and she was to be built at Blohm &amp; Voss in co-operation with Lürssen. When a large part of the hull and superstructure of Project Panhandle/Golden Star was completed, the construction stopped and the unfinished yacht was sold to the ruler of Dubai, who transported her from Germany to Dubai for completion.Photo by Merijn de Waard

The 162 metre superyacht Dubai in Dubai

In 2006 work started to convert a research vessel into private yacht by Platinum Yachts in the United Arab Emirates. Work on the project, code named Cosmos, stopped in 2009, and the yacht's faith at this moment is unknown to us.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/143229/image/large-22b4942db569dace6a8c9644d8058b18.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/143229">When I was in Dubai last week, on top of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, I spotted the yacht on the hard in an area known as Dubai Maritime City. True to her mythological name, the 88 metre diesel-electric superyacht Triton is destined to rule the waves. Platinum Yachts, a Dubai World Company Dry Docks World subsidiary, unveiled this superyacht at the inaugural 2009 Abu Dhabi Yacht Show in March. Triton was designed by the combined talents of Sam Sorgiovanni and Azure Naval Architects. With a 14.6 metre beam and 4.4 metre draft, she is the first in a planned series of six. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/128426/image/large-ee09a97cab2bc247fa4333370f6eea4f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/128426">Triton’s design has timeless elements of classic yachts, with a modern perspective. She is a full displacement, twin screw diesel-electric motor yacht with a round bilge steel hull and aluminum superstructure. Her exterior consists of four accommodation decks and a spacious sundeck that can be fitted as a fully compliant helideck at the owner’s request. The Platinum Yachts mission was to create a superyacht perfect for vacation come rain or sunshine. Interior and exterior merge effortlessly without distracting from the surrounding beauty. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/128429/image/large-1aa6cfaa08637092c4397c478990999e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/128429">This superyacht’s diesel-electric propulsion configuration was designed in close collaboration with Imtech Marine, featuring a “single-deck” engine room that allowed more luxury interior space when compared with yachts of similar size. Though this propulsion design has a greater cost and is generally heavier in weight than others, the trade-offs for these minor considerations include better fuel consumption, low noise and vibration, less need for controllable pitch propellers, and easy maintenance due to the conventional arrangements. Triton has a maximum speed of 19 knots. At a cruising speed of 15 knots, she has a range of approximately 5000 nautical miles. Water and light are the ingredients used to provide a unique atmosphere and ambience. The spa at the top, the three exterior Jacuzzis, the pool and the amazing “beach-club” at the transom form an interacting environment with light and water. The “beach-club”, in addition to the large pool (with waterfall) consists of a sunbathing area, beach bar and diving center, as well as everything a water-sports lover could dream off. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/128433/image/large-4b582e08aa026cc29feea6b0f269377f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/128433">Within her exterior, the arrangement, the spaces, the circulation of crew and guests has been developed in order to provide a home-like feeling combined with sophisticated luxury and privacy. There is a central staircase with glass elevator that connects the five decks together, allowing access from the Lower-deck embarkation platform directly to all the accommodation spaces. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/128434/image/large-bba2443022f339abeed5f2279a335455.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/128434">Beginning at the lower deck, the layout includes a full gymnasium with en-suite toilet facilities as well as crew cabin accommodation, fully-equipped galley and laundry facilities. On the lower deck is also the tender garage, capable of handling 11-meter tenders. In 2006 Platinum Yachts started the complex conversion from the 45 metre, three-masted schooner, with a round bilge steel hull and superstructure, to the world class sailing superyacht she is today. When fully loaded she displaces 426 tons. Dubai Magic's mechanical propulsion system consists of a twin screw conventional shaft system, driven by two Caterpillar 3406C diesel engines with 480 bhp each at 2100rpm. To better ensure a smooth cruising, she has been equipped with fixed fin stabilizers that work both underway as well at anchor. The 12 guest cabins and Owners suite are located on the cabin deck and a spacious lounge and dining saloon on the main deck. In terms of square metres, she has an impressive 346 square metres of exterior living space, including the aft main deck with a bimini and an open sundeck. For interior living spaces, the layout is arranged with effective utilization of pre-existing structures, optimizing the re-fit work required during the conversion process. She has also been equipped with a comfortable 8 person dining space for evening meals under the stars. From here we can move forward into the deckhouse, where we find an over-sized lounge/dining saloon. Here the interior design is full of rich wood grain, elegant gold-patterned carpeting, and plush soft red-leather furniture. To port, there is a seating area which is separate from the starboard-side bar. Aft of the owner's stateroom are four guest suites with double beds, free-standing sofa, and ensuite baths. On the aft cabin deck are 8 intimate guest cabins, each with a full-sized bed and ensuite bath.
